The book of Eli - Good.
Good movie. Excelent photography and acting. It kinda portrays what's supposed to happen to prophets.
I liked it. I'm sure a lot of people didn't.
[size="2"]I like the Walrus best.
It had the most ridiculous plot and theme I've seen in the last few years. Basically, the hero was carrying a pizza, and everybody wanted the pizza because in a time where water is scarce, the pizza gives you power. And you're thinking 'well it can't be JUST a pizza...maybe it's really a doomsday death ray or something'...and in the end it's just a pizza.
At least I got to look at Mila Kunis for 2 hours though :)

I walked out of that movie and demanded my money back ( first time I have ever done this). I then proceeded to change $0.50 to everyone I warned, as a fee coz I saved them time and money.
I was influenced by the Ghetto you ruined.
Yea that movie was crap. Action was lame. They did the same exact scene twice. The plot was pretty dumb I thought. "With this book you can control people. I must have it." - gay

I haven't seen it, and I have no intention of watching it. I find this whole religion / bible thing really off-putting, to be honest. But then, not being religious, I probably don't really fit in with the target audience of that movie either.

^^^This already happens and there are millions of 'holy books'. There is estimated to be almost as many Bibles in the world as there is people, not even including any other religious book.
I thought this movie was OK. Nothing amazing, but not that bad.
If you think about what would happen if every Bible, Koran, Torah, etc, were destroyed except a select few, then I think that people would go to great lengths to get and/or protect those books, just as in this movie. I think any very religious person, or group of people would go to great trouble to get their hands on their religions book.
I thought some of the things they said were kind of good-natured stabs at religions in general. One line was something like: "People have killed thousands of other people because of this book", which is quite true. Many wars/genocides have happened because of religion and religious beliefs.
I would probably watch it again to catch some things I missed the first time, but I won't buy it.
I did not understand why the book was so valuable, and how it could have helped that guy do anything else other than what he was doing currently, but I did like the movie. First of all, come on, it's Denzel Washington and Mila Kunis. Second of all, I could see how many people wouldn't like the ending and would call it corny, but I love how it made me look back upon the whole movie and exclaim to myself, "Now I get it," and, "Did you notice that?" (Although I didn't understand the switch up between actors in the end from Denzel to that other guy.)
All in all I thought it was worth my money. Now if you want to talk about a movie that isn't worth your money, then let's talk about Brooklyn's Finest.

Actually, the ending made me look back and think 'great, now I don't understand anything that happened in the movie' and 'how THE HELL did he do these things?'. And then you just accept that the movie simply goes battlestar galactica on your ass, and the answer is 'stop thinking bitches, it was GOD all along'. Actually now that I'm thinking about it there are more similarities with battlestar galactica, because I never understood why Hera was so god damn important either :)

I went with my dad and he had exactly the same impression. He even asked me how is that they shot him and he didn't die (the two times).
In my oppinion, the intention of the writer was to expose the of sentiment that God does protect certain people in order to allow them carry on with certain tasks/quests. They don't even need to be good persons.
In the end, it all resumes to the hero thingy. You can't kill the hero. If he dies before his time, he isn't a hero.
I certainly agree that for people that is out of the religious spec, this script is crap from top to bottom. Beyond that, I stand that the photography and the acting are great. And that there are TONS of other movie scripts worst than this one.
EDIT: My favourite part is when Gary Oldman shoots Densel in the stomach and at the same time a thunder falls down. It made me feel like "That was so wrong", like if God got very angry for that event happening. That Densel kept walking after that shot is obviously the representation of a miracle, that is what God usually do when man freewill fucks up his plans.

Well, even if one accepts to go along with the 'God made it possible' argument, you can't help but thinking that strangely God chose a rather flameboyant display of 'miracles' instead of choosing a more subtle approach...he could just relieve the hero from his shortcoming altogether, and tweak things so he would avoid life-threatening situations. Does God like to show off much? :P
Actually I have these questions not only about this movie, which after all is just a movie, but about official religion as well...for example, when God wanted to liberate the Jews from Egypt, he sent 7 epic plagues, including the death of thousand children...I can't help but thinking that he could just...I don't know...make all the Egyptians fall to sleep for a couple of weeks or something? The Jews would leave quietly and that would be it. Of course that would make for a rather boring blockbuster bible movie...who knows, maybe God was providing for Hollywood producers even then... :P
