OUTCAST redone - how cool is that?
remember the game Outcast?
some people remake it with the crysis engine, there's a tech demo and video on this site:

YT video for the lazy. Make sure to watch 720p fullscreen
That's way cool. I haven't poked around on the site at all, but where'd they get all the art assets? Did they recreate them or did they rip them from the original game?
to me it looks (in the video) like they've redone it all from scratch.
I haven't looked all too much on the site yet myself, just discovered it.
Heh, your "todo" tool is just what I need right now for @ home, I'll try that one out.

I assume this team has the permission of the people who actually own the IP?
Quote: But Yves Grolet founded a new company, ElseWhere Entertainment, which was very interested in creating a sequel to Outcast. Unfortunately Infogrames, holder of the rights, resisted a petition of the Outcast community. And so we started our own project to create a sequel to Outcast.Sounds like they don't. Morons.

Meh. What I saw was pretty impressive for a hobbyist team. Let them and Atari worry about IP rights, no skin off our back. I have Crysis Wars, so if the company lets them be(which I hope they will), I'll play it. If they get shut down, as the company have any right to do so, their problem.
On another note, it's funny how those fan games always get a horde of artist people to help, while original projects struggle...

It's easier to copy than to create.

Sweet. It's people like you that make me want to make Todo better. I really should get around to finishing Todo 4.0... some things about Todo 3.0 bother me.

a bit sad yes, but well it is logical
person X (artist)
now which should I choose
project A, which sounds interesting but is an untried formula
project B, remake of a game person X loved to play in their younger days

Yeah, you should really put that on your todo list.

I just don't get these people. They put all that effort and time into a project when they damn well know that it only takes one single moment (and a C&D letter) to completely bury the game for all eternity, which could happen at any time. They're at the whim of virtually anyone even remotely connected to the legal department of the IP holder. One of the lawyers (or even just assistants) there has a bad day, and bam, all the work they put into this is gone from one second to the next. How motivating.
But then again, there is the 'open' prefix in the name. I probably shouldn't be surprised.
