That was in November of 1994.

I'm picturing a smokey room with flashing lights and busty blonds sporting poofy 80's hair and shiny panties. Deff Leppard's 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' blasts in the background as they gyrate on poles.

Never understood the appeal of spending time with women who don't want to be with you. Never understood people who pretend they don't want to be with you, either. These clubs would make me want to puke.

I don't care if other people are doing it consensually and don't think it should be generalized so that "if some women are forced into it then it must always be evil" (because that's unfair & offensive to the women who are there by choice)... it just confuses the fuck out of me. The average person is way too psychopathic for me to understand.

I don't remember the details. 1994 was before the ban on smoking so the place was probably smokey. Def Leppard is likely but big hair, probably not. I remember that we also went to a country bar and laughed when the cowboys joked about us looking like the Beatles. I never went to either club when I lived in Sacto.

Customs like booking are an adaptation of traditional courtship rituals. The purpose is to create a stable society, emphasizing family formation and procreation over mere self-satisfaction, by setting up a well-defined system of rules, expectations, and rituals for courtship. The participants understand the game and each party does what they can within its confines to maximize their chances of getting what they want. Married couples don't want to be with each other all the time, but they do it anyway because without compromise and obligation, the marriage compact would be worthless.

I'll bet the guys doing the booking are hoping that their charm and ostentatious displays of wealth will make the girls want to choose them. Note that to this day in many parts of the world, it is not uncommon to decide to want marriage and then end up marrying someone within a few "dates."
