Ideas for a game development community that makes games
Let's say I were to make a game development community site that would focus on putting out actual game content (versus just discussion about game development). What kind of features would you guys want to see? Do any similar sites already exist?
I guess it would sort of be like a DeviantArt for games. A developer could upload a game and then others could play it. There could be pages for in-progress games. Artists/programmers/musicians/designers/writers could also showcase their work; they could collaborate to make games. It wouldn't be entirely focused on just playing games, like many Flash portals do; it would be focused on developers and the development community, and the actual content that they put out.
Would this kind of site be appealing to you? What kind of features would you want to see?
XNA is close, but that's just a single platform.
It would be nice if there were some sort of version control if you're getting more into the development side.
Interesting concept. I'd say its appeal would vary greatly with its execution.

Like this: greatgamesexperiment.com?
Hm, that's pretty close. I haven't heard of that before. But one thing I see missing from that site is an 'In Progress' page for games. It would be cool to be able to see on a single page any recent activity on game development from any developers you are following. That would put more focus on game development rather than just finished products.
Would game industry news content be nice? Like having gamedev.net style dailies, or newsposts about industry news?
You've got to think that nobody works for free. Plus, managing online teams is always really difficult.
I knew someone who had this idea. It never got off the ground cause they could never figure out a how to pay people or distribute points or something like that.

GGE and Kongregate are both fairly well run IMO.
If there was a Kongregate for XNA I'd be all over it.

I've only used kongregate like twice, how is it different from xna?

Well, I didn't mean that they make games for other people. They're not working for anyone; they're just uploading the games they make in a centralized place, instead of on their own website and hoping some indie news portal picks it up. It's just to centralize indie development into one place; instead of just the cool ones getting publicity, the beginners will be able to show their work too and get helpful feedback.

It would basically be Kongregate but for downloadable games as well as Flash (so yes, XNA). Also, developers would be the main focus, over game-players.

Here is a feature that I think would be cool:
Anyone can upload anything game dev related, like art, sprites, 3d models, code snippets, code libraries, full game sources, stories, design docs, music, and sfx. A developer can upload game assets and link them to his own game.
So let's say for example Johnathan Blow uploaded Braid: the Braid game page would let you browse the game music, sprites, code, development sketches, game-in-progress videos, and anything he wanted to share. Viewers could comment on each piece and get a deep insight (or even involved) in the development process.
And of course people who just want to play games can go ahead and do that without too much developer stuff getting in the way.

Kongregate is flash games only

I know that. He said if there was a kongregate for XNA he'd be all over it, but XNA already has most of kongregates features as far as I can tell. That's what I'm confused about.
