My SuperCrazyAwesomeIdea 3: True skill based combat
This was originally one big thread. But as I went back again and again to explain my ideas. I realized it was just to big to be one, so I split them in sections. They are meant to be read in order. So without further ado, my ideas. Well....not totally mine I would say, the places where I gained inspiration are obvious. Anyways yeah...read. :P (note, this ideas are all written to be in a MMORPG. But I am sure you can place them anywhere) ----- Of course in a game like this where all your items are player crafted(this is the goal here. No more pants dropping from monsters that have no business wearing them), you lose end game loot rewards and you lose players. Don't you? What if battling bosses were harder? Enemy's more cunning? What if a few of the bosses were even real people? Mods checking chat logs and responding to help requests while waiting at the end of a dungeon for a person or group brave enough to fight them(of course players would not be told they are mods, maybe not even tell them its a real person. but if they are told, it would be out of game). A real feat to be known worldwide if you could defeat one. If you made everything skill based, and not level based, this could work. I don't mean the more you swing your sword, the better you get at it type of skill based either. But maybe games that have combat such as typical fighter games(such as mortal combat, soul caliber, even zelda) There is still competition to be had between players. Skill combinations to be learned for special moves(short combinations). Or maybe skills learned then assigned combinations. You can learn still learn different forms of fighting, and they are all the more unique still. Archers could have readouts of wind conditions and such. Tap one button to draw out the string. Every tap is another inch you pull it back, the more is pulled back, the harder/farther it flies. Aim with the mouse while taking not of the wind, and shoot. Of course I think this would only work in first person perspective, with the aiming and all with relation to wind, maybe not. (speaking of which, why not have the whole game in first person? I speak more on this at the end of this section) Hunters(if the kind that has a "pet") could learn different whistle combination's to control their pet and tell it what to do(or pre-determined words, or ones made up by players. But it might sound weird if not pronounced right when shouting out to the pet). Which can be learned in "training session" with the pet(another "creation window" in game). Rub some meat on a dummy's leg and let the dog loose while giving the command. If the dog is smart, it will only take a few times before it learns that word means "tear off his leg." Put the meat smell all over the body to teach him to just generally attack the target. This method can be used to teach them to disarm, distract, anything. The voice commands can be on your regular “skill bar” seeing as it might be hard to shoot an arrow and give other commands at the same time. Maybe not. For teaching regular commands like come and sit. A player could enter the a “caring session”. A slightly different one that I see as DS like(think nintendogs). You can push down on its rump while saying the command of your choice. Even place a treat on its nose and teach it random tricks to amuse friends. Or just pet and love up on it if that's your kind of thing(maybe have some type of stat like loyalty that raises the more you "care" for it). Dog(or other animal) not listening to you? Find a breeder, or regular animal trainer who might have more experience than you. The more commands you teach, the less you'll have to repeat a command to have the animal listen. Or find one to teach you how to teach for a fee. No telling how many animals you might have to teach. Magicians. Well, I've not really thought these out well. These be played either as close combat or archers. But I would love a really cool magic system to be in place. Maybe something that requires long preparation, the calling of demons to do your bidding, or something that really drains your energy(do to much work, and pass out).
My current game: MMORPGRTSFPSRLG. Read: Some sort of mmorpg with a special something that will make everyone want to play but I wont tell you what it is.
Status: Pre-Production, Game Design
Team Openings: None
For serious though, my goal is to create a MMO. What kind? Not sure yet. MMO games are my passion and it's a goal of mine to change the industry for the better. Do I know it's an unrealistic goal? Yes. Do I care? Heck no.
