What makes it notable is the fact that this telescope looks for objects using infrared wavelengths of light. The use of this telescope could find near earth objects before they become a threat. I mean if you don't care if we all go the way of the dino then whatever guess this news sucks. Plus this telescope might prevent the Nibiru collision. [lol]

Very nice, but I'm more concerned about NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden meeting the President to discuss the future of NASA's human spaceflight program.

You mean kind of what they've been doing for the past 30 or 40 years? Very little astronomy data collection is done in visible light. And it can be a real pain to find astronomy photos in visible light as they actually exist, rather than doctored and 'data enhanced' to provide more information. Makes designing a realistic space sim a pain.
