Yeah, I noted the 1.0 support; I was hoping however that maybe having a 2.0 platform would push Android to support it (je suis hate the FFP).
End of the day that, nor the Java, is any sort of deal breaker with regards to my intrest in the Xperia X10, just would be nice to know what the hardware under the hood can do.

Are there any programmable pipeline handheld devices right now?

Any of the latest iPhone/iTouch devices have GL ES 2.0 support; beyond that I'm not sure tbh
@phantom - you can streamline scala (a more consistent and modern language) to run on it by packaging and then shaking out unnecessary class paths.
i wish sun would get its act together with javafx, an interesting technology with good potential, rather than dropping various nebulous ambiguities on its state.

I'm pretty sure that's really only intended for doing critical portions of an app. You can't make a stand alone assembly that way, you are basically writing a DLL.
It's basically the exact same as the iPhone with C/C++ actually but they try to word it to push you towards the Java stuff (meaning on the iPhone you still need to have the Objective-C code for main window, delegate, touch, etc). You can write nearly the entire application in native code and use the Java stuff as an entry point.
Wow, thanks for the info. My boss wants me to get a smart phone, and I decided to take a look at this after I saw the commercial for the navigator. Looks like it's gonna be a good pick. i just have to do one last visit to verizon to get some of my questions cleared up. I was looking at the Motorola Droid.
With the Navigator, can you specify paths? Like in the regular google maps where you grab the line and move it so you go via a certain road?
Also, do you know if I can put my own ringtones on the phone? I currently have a chocolate 3, and I can make my own ringtones by cutting them down (free program called MpTrim), putting them in the sounds folder, then texting them too myself. Does this work on the Droid, or is there an easier way to do it?
I remember hearing that batteries don't really have "memories" anymore. I could be wrong about that though.

for the maps, at the very least, I haven't *figured out* how to move the mapping path. I don't think it's possible. As for making your own ringtones, I actually have an app on my phone (a free one) that lets me edit MP3 files down to make ringtones. so yes, you're completely free to make as many ringtones as you want.
