Can I has more Stargate Universe pls?
I saw the first two hours of it (three times already). It's simply great.
The acting, the screenplay, the effects. I can't help thinking that it is going to be canceled or that the director or some key writer might get fired and that it will not make it.
It looks expensive, so that could be a reason too.
Does anyone else saw it? What you think?
[size="2"]I like the Walrus best.
So far, I'm not really into the show. I think its because, out of all the characters, Eli is the only one that I like. That and "dark and edgy" doesn't really interest me unless they use that settings to interesting or meaningful ends. I don't think SG:U is doing that yet.
But it isn't even halfway through the first season, so lets see where it goes.

I've been watching till the 6th episode on youtube and after the first two, the series seems to become a little cheaper from a production stand point. Still, the story stands interesting. Lots of care seems to have been put into it. I really hope it wont degrade any further.

All the stargate's have been fun, this one just seems more like stargate mashed together with Star Trek Voyager, which has the potential to go either way. I'm definitely watching.
I'm still waiting for something to, well, happen. There was one off-world (well, off-ship) episode (the jungle one) that was kind of exciting, but so far it has pretty much just been drama, drama and more drama. Where is my Stargate action?
Ok, so blah, we're going to visit our families using some device, have sex all over the place, blah blah flying into the sun blah blah, oh no termites, blah. I don't fucking care. Blow some shit up, guys.
Also - where did the humor go? The fat guy is kind of funny, but he seems to be a bagpipe in an all-jazz band. For comic relief, SG-1 had O'Neill (and then Mitchell), SG-A had Rodney and SG-U has...this chubby MIT gamer geek? Really?
Still waiting for the show to start.

Yeah, WTF was that? I'm guessin' that'll be the hook for getting us looking forward for the second season... (I hope they won't just never go back on it álà Heroes)

I really enjoyed the first two episodes, but I thought the rest was a let down so far; nothing is happening and the realism and feeling of being in a critical situation are long gone. However, Friday's episode was different. It was great and I'm now definitely looking forward not only to this week's episode, but to the rest of the season. As long as they don't just resolve the issue "cheaply" over the length of one episode (something which is very possible).
I have watched up to episode 10 (justice).
I must say episode 10 is one of the greatest sci-fi episodes of all time. Some episodes a let down but i think we are over them.
The entire point of this show is the conflict between rush and young and it is simply brilliant. Go read the stargate forums and read hundreds of post where people defend/attack rush/young. There is no right and wrong, its total grey and no one can agree, probably not even the writers.
Episode 10 (cliffhanger) will be fully resolved in around episode 14, so I hear.
If you dont like SGU, its not that its a bad show - YOU are missing the point. People had similar complaints about BSG when it first aired, now it is considered a landmark scifi show.
It has its ups and downs (what show doesnt?) but SGU is in it for the long haul and not cheap thrills (SG-1 & SGA), it is well worth keeping in with.
It is nothing like Voyager or BSG, that is a simplistic comparison. SGU contains many fresh elements which I have never seen before.
Season 2 will begin shooting in april.
The jungle planet episode (Time) ending was saying "been there done that, figure it out yourself", I agree, it was not necessary to tell that story.

Which you feel are? It is a good and fairly unique show, but I can't honestly say I've noticed a single truly fresh and totally unique element that I haven't come across before.

The first two hours - do you mean the two hour pilot episode? With the flashbacks that tell how they arrived on the ship?
Friday's broadcast episode was flagged as season one finale, but that seems premature to me. SyFy channel tends to split seasons into two halves, so it must have been the finale to the first half of the season. My guess is that the second half will run in the middle of spring.
The season ends on a cliff hanger of sorts. I won't spoil it for you.

The acting and the effects are commendable, the writing not so much. The show is very subtle. It meanders about and then nonchalantly drops an emotional bomb or two or suddenly grows uncanny in a way that only science fiction can. It doesn't hit you over the head with it though. If you blink you might miss it.
The lack of discipline among the soldiers bugs me. The blond medic is a treat, she's really sexy but it doesn't always show.

It's likely all green screen and cgi. SyFy runs a show right after it called Sanctuary that is all done on green screen. I think the costs for green screen have dropped quite a lot as the quality has gone up.
