If the band is dead because you don't practice it's because you and your friends don't have the resolve to actually put in the work to accomplish things. That's called irresponsibility and if it wasn't CoD then it would be football or clubbing or drugs or something else. People who genuinely wish to achieve things will do it, regardless of their recreational options.

Particular when it comes to music culture, the typical depiction of a "band" is a bunch of guys who meet one day and then instantly and magically they're making awesome music without any practice, skill, talent, time, or effort involved.

Did you ever really want to be successful or did you just want to be lucky?
A band not consist of one man. I wanted it, the guitarist didn't have confidence and the bass guitarist decided to work in a distance city instead (guess it wasn't his kind of music, but he refused to tell).

We had talent, some skills (natural, not academic), we did things in the 4 years of operation, but we usually gave up too easily when things (song writing) didn't go how we wanted.

But the drums are still in the room...
Just wait until your friends start getting married.

It'll probably happen sooner than you think. A few of my friends are married or engaged and I'm only a sophomore in college.

Honestly, I had friends like that, but I don't see them anymore. Playing video games is a part of my life, but a fairly small part. The older I have gotten, the more I find myself incompatible with "hardcore" gamers. I can't just stand around and talk about games for hours, I can't play a game for more than about 2 hours at a time, etc. I also cannot deal with the ultra competitiveness. I just play games to unwind or have fun.

The bottom line is that if your friends are not doing the same things you want to do, it sounds like they need replacing. Of course there is always give or take in that regard, but if a hyped game release leaves you friendless for weeks, that is a problem.

"Replacing" is a little harsh, more like augmenting with others with different intrests.

That's true. The OP doesn't have to actually get rid of them, but I think it is time to find friends who are interested in other things that you like.
If only I could replace them. The only problem is that I live in a tiny mountain town in which everybody knows everybody. And everybody is hardcore into the FPS genre, whereas I'm more into RPGs.

Who wants to here an ironic story? So I brought my Wii to my friend's house a few days ago so that I would have something to do when they played MW2. I left it there because I figured I would be returning soon. I woke up this morning with half a foot of snow, and my only car is a tiny Nissan with no chains or cables. My roommate is at work (not sure how he got there), and I'm left at home with no way to go anywhere. And all there is to do here is play his 360. He has the entire CoD series..and not much else.....

Man, you got a real tough life!

I wish there were snow here in Finland. That's why I came here after all...
I rented MW2, and found it to be delightful. I lost a bunch of friends to WoW, and having tried it, I didn't really see the appeal. Different strokes and all that. It's a little disturbing to see that a couple of my Xbox Live buddies have logged over a hundred hours in the game, despite it's only having been out for a little while, but if you live in an apartment with four other guys who play the game, it's a really fun way to spend leisure time together. God knows how many hours my neighbor and I have logged in Smash Brothers and Wii Resort.
