plus I know at least Walmart is being smart and keeping almost all their stores open 24hrs to avoid a huge mass at the door. Of course... that doesn't mean ppl won't get trampled in the store but... never mind.

Walmart should just close that day. The combination of Redneck Psychos and low low prices is a recipe for disaster.

It's recession time, the chance of anyone gets trampled is reduced by 25.6 %.

Wait, wouldn't the recession increase the chance of people being trampled due to idiots who will do anything to save money so they can pretend they have more wealth than they really do.

I want to visit the US one day to actually witness Black Friday. I hear all these stories about overweight housewives hip-checking each other into stacks of DVD players, yet nobody ever posts videos.

The closest thing we have are Boxing Day/Week sales, and I think the worst one of those I've been to is when the guy in front of me bumped me in the forehead with his elbow by accident and didn't apologize immediately.

Yeah, last time I went to a store early for boxing day sales was with a few friends that were determined to be the first in the store. (We showed up at 4 am,... we weren't first.) No one from the store had actually told us to start a line, but our group clustered off to the side behind the first group. As more people slowly came to the store we just naturally formed a line. At no point did I ever hear someone say "Get to the end of the line", everyone just assumed what looked like a line was in fact a line.

Even had one who left the line make like ten runs to Tim's to get coffee for nearly the whole line.

Top notch idea for a website. Here is an example,
">Black Friday Fight

It is no joke. I witnessed it first hand and I can't recall a season in the last 5 years where at least one person wasn't killed or seriously injured. Though the chance for death increases when something is low in supply or during a launch (eg video game systems, elmo dolls, etc.)

That's how it's been when I camp for games. I think the problem comes from the garage sale type that frequent black friday. They aren't there for anything specific they are there just to say they saved money on something. They start getting frantic if they feel like they are going to miss out on a deal.

I've heard similar complaints about the "Fatwallet crowd." We have that in Canada, though, too. Even though we get some great deals on Boxing Day stuff, it's generally a very comfortable experience.

It might just be that Black Friday is more hysterically hyped, or the deals are way better than what we get here. Canada tends to kind of get screwed on pricing because of a combination of our (usually) weak dollar and generally unproductive economy, despite our proximity to the USA. I wouldn't be surprised if our Boxing Day "deals" were just your guys' regular price.

Even at stores that arbitrarily limit supply (like a local stereo shop in town that sells iPods for 60% off, but only have 30/store) the atmosphere is pretty happy rather than violent.

I think the only queue I've ever been in that I was in serious danger of being trampled or murdered was waiting in line for Metallica tickets at Ticketmaster. I must admit that I was also recently in line (for five hours!) for swine flu vaccination and it there were some grumblings and verbal assaults when they ran out of vaccine, but it was fairly comfortable until then - I even got coffee for the other people in line around me.

Perhaps our colonial cultural heritage just makes us more likely to queue up like the English, and Quebec is just going along with it because they like hanging out with us for cheap Tim's. [smile]
Back to the original question at hand,
I'm not sure, I hear Wal-Mart is having a huge blow-out sale on Black Friday with GTA4 being sold for $9, and FallOut3 for $19.99. Not to mention all the new releases at around half-price(For the most part $34.99)

I'm still looking at the laptops at BestBuy though, they have some new model's running at $189, It has Windows 7 and some other stuff, but Idk If I feel like waking up early -_-
Oh btw I got my HDTV, for $50 off the Black Friday price, on Wednesday, from the same store. Ordered it online and picked it up in the store that nite. Best Buy FTW!
