I've always put myself in the programming side of Game Development, but lately, I've been trying to write, despite my lack of talent. I was wondering, how people come up with good game material, but after reading the news today, it sort of hit me. News is a great source of ideas. For example: Nasa bombing the moon. That could certainly be used to write a theme, or at least basis for the storyline. Oh... no.... t-they..... relea..sed the aliens...... ..... . Where do you get your ideas and inspiration?
Well, people have different ways of getting inspiration, depending on what you like and what you WANT.

The method i use is usually asking my self "what if...?" and "how about...?".

Like nasa bombing the moon: what if there is an alien outpost on the moon and take this as an act of agression? what if they attack us? what should we do then? or how about we lost the war against the aliens and earth was conquered? What if you survive and now part of human remnant? Should we fight back and free the mankind?

Oh, and don't forget to write it down, no matter how crappy of an idea that sounds. As when you have new inspiration you could take up you old idea, twists here, turn there and you might have your master piece, who knows?

I get inspired by just about everything.

Recently I watched a program on Discovery channel about demolition and the hardships of imploding a really strong structure. I thought that would make a really great game. Like Pontifex or Bridge builder but the other way around.

Between New Scientist and the strange things that I see on my Twitter friend-feed, I find that I spend half my day thinking 'that would be a great idea for a game'...

Strangely, I wrote a whole 'webinar' about writing for games recently, so I had a whole section on where to find inspiration.

I came to the conclusion a while ago, that you can sap a lot of inspiration from B-, C- and Fan-Fic-grade writings that never made it into pop culture centre-stage. Little writings that just circulated the internet, and were quirky but contrived - like this, etc.
