I'm trying to figure out enemy characters for my adventure game. It takes place in midevil times, but it has no magic... just regular midevil weapons (crossbows, swords, etc) I need some type of enemy that would be destroying the human race, you have to fight these enemys, saving the human race and at the same time... avenging your slain father. Any ideas?
Cthulu?

My personal approach would be to base it on the black plague, and capitalize on the belief that Jews were responsible. It'd be the most fun ironically anti-Semitic game of the decade.
Not interested in using bad humans? Saves on extra modelling/animation costs

midevil times

I hate to be that guy, but... did you want to write medieval?
So no magical enemies?

If you want to go realistic maybe some hun/mongol type of enemies.

Less realistic, maybe alien or time traveler controlling contemporary proxies.

You are pretty much stuck with something supernatural or else humans of a different faction attacking your chosen population. You might go with demonic possessions or actual demons. Religious beliefs are probably the most realistic context to show this in.

In particular, most of mediaeval European history is couched in terms of the centuries long conflict between Christianity and Islam.

Yeah supernatural creatures are probably what I'll go after. The reason there's not going to be magic is because I have a really cool vision for this game that magic would ruin. I was thinking some sort of insect creature, but I can't figure out how I would explain the sudden appearance of a giant insect. Miners found it underground maybe? Now that it's released it's preying on humans. I want something that comes, and the humans find themselves the prey.
If you want to conform to period realism then the best you can do is have human faction fighting human faction. There was a great deal of conflict between parties with different interests - the Christians and the Muslims have already been mentioned - so you just need to find an enemy to suit your requirements.

Or if you're going for period fantasy, then how about basilisks or dragons? :)
