The Windows 7 Launch Party video
Have you already seen the ">Windows 7 Launch Party video?
Personally I think it takes too long and I get bored of it before it ends, but, this is supposed to be an ad made by Microsoft about Windows 7. It's so cheesy that I wonder if it actually really is from them, or if it's a spoof.
What do you think the purpose of this is? Does it reach its goal?
You're just watching ">the wrong video. [grin]
Seriously though, it's a terrible video. Windows 7 is actually a really good OS (been using it for the past 6 months and I'd never go back to XP), and then they let this bunch of idiots market it?
Given that MS has done a reasonable job of countering the "Mac vs. PC" ads with their less condescending "I'm a PC" ads, I'm surprised at the total ham-handedness of this. Feels like it was someones' pet idea that was pushed through.

I managed to cringe for 30 seconds until I had to stop watching.
Quote: Apple has spent what seems like 10 years trying to make PC users look dorky with their “I’m a Mac” advertisements. And along comes Microsoft and does a far better job at it.
Notice the clock on oven starts at 3:20 and ends, 6 minutes later, at 5:01. I hate to tell these folks, but after 1.5 hours, you can assume no one else is going to show up.
I can’t help thinking that, if Microsoft had come out with a well-managed, well-produced and enjoyable ad campaign that didn’t make everyone cringe, they wouldn’t currently have half the internet talking about their product launch. So perhaps this is actually brilliant…

I actually agree with the comment in this blog that they intended this to be cringe-inducing. They were probably hoping for a viral "lol look at this bad video" sort of effect.

Hmm, and I helped them with this thread.
I don't even get it... I watched the beginning 3 times before realizing they said launch party and not lunch party. After that I realized what a retarded ad it was. I originally thought they wanted the laptop to just blend into their lunch party... which could kinda make sense from an ad point of view.

">Oh yeah!!!. They been there and done that!
Haha, but that one is actually funny!
I've been turned off by Microsoft's cheesy advertising campaign ever since I saw Microsoft try to force interaction between Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates. Seeing the Windows 7 launch party video did not surprise me. (Watching the clock jump back and forth between 3:15 and 4:00 is more entertaining than the commercial itself!)
Oh hey, what's this in my back pocket? An MSDNA account? Looks like I'll be using Microsoft Windows 7 for the next few years!

It's actually not an advertisement for the OS. It was a DVD given out to people who were selected to hold launch parties for Windows 7. So it's not really trying to sell the OS or be cool.
Wish I could find where I first found that out. But the internet lately has been set on calling it an ad.
