Kim's Game, Memory and Observational training
I recently played a modified version of Kim's Game. I'll give a brief explanation here, but a full one can be found on wikipedia: Kim's Game - Wikipedia In the original version, the player was shown a number of objects, given some time to study them, and then asked to name all the objects that were present. The version I played, we were shown a picture for a brief period of time and asked to recall as many details about it as possible. The game is meant to increase observational/memory skills, which is one of the reasons I'm interested in it. However, it is kind of difficult to do on your own, so I'm looking into making it into a computer game of some sort, and I'm here to discuss some of the ideas. This may spawn a Help Wanted thread as well. My current thought for gameplay would be to show the player an image for X number of seconds, then display a list of check boxes, some of which are in the image and some of which are not. The player would mark the boxes they think are in the image, and would receive points for the ones they marked that were in the photo, and lose points for the ones they marked that weren't in the photo. Maybe award different levels of points based on the detail (1 point for identifying a pot of flowers, 2 or 3 for knowing their daffodils, or something). You can also calculate a solid number based on (Number of Points/Time looked at image) so the player has an idea of how well they are doing. I could probably have a working version of this game by next week. But the same problem crops up. If I am providing the images, and auditing them, it's not very helpful to me, plus I'll miss stuff. So my second Idea was to make it web based some how and allow people to add photos and tags to the images. This, of course, would have to be moderated some how. Also, I don't know a whole lot about web programming. Like I said, this is just to bounce some ideas so I can get a clearer idea. I'm interested in any addendums, ideas, criticisms, insults, pitfalls you see...any input at all. Thanks!
Interesting idea, though I don't see why you don't have players use text entry. Seeing the names of things will reinforce the memories you saw.
Suppose there is a 'flowerpot' displayed; any of a set of words that are equivalent should be acceptable, like 'vase' 'planter' etc.
I also like your scoring idea; naming a flower is worth more than just calling it 'flower'

The only problem I have with Text entry is sorting out synonyms and misspellings.
If you are willing to pay a little money, you can use a service called mechanical turk (run by amazon). Roughly speaking, you'd upload a series of images, and ask people to write a list of details about the image. You could either give them a large checklist to pick from or have them enter the data free-form. You'd pay each person something like 10 cents per picture. I haven't used the service, but it seems like a perfect match for what you are looking for, assuming you are willing to spend some time figuring it out and a couple of bucks (literally) for someone to do the dirty work for you.
