Mixing Audio for mobile apps...
Does anyone mix differently for mobile applications? ...because in most cases people aren't using their headphones when playing and the audio is coming out usually in mono on a tinny speaker (iPhone). Some others do have stereo however. Ian www.ianbuczkowski.com
Yes, I mix very differently because of the lower quality, smaller speaker(s). I do my best to make it sound good without headphones but awesome with headphones.

Hey Nathan
Good to know :) Any specific pointers or frequencies you tend to reduce when EQ-ing? Other then maybe a bit of low-cut?
Thanks!

Nope, just do a lot of testing and experiment with that works best with the audio you're creating. You're correct, lower quality and/or smaller speakers cannot handle too much low end. Just make it sound as good as possible without the headphones while sounding better with. It will probably take some messing around.

Depends what mobile device you're talking about.
iphone/ipod I don't tend to mess with, most people play those devices with headphones. The speakers seem to be pretty resilient. I don't go nuts with sub bass or anything though.
Cell phones, PDAs, Nintendo DS's I do EQ and compress.
Like others I've discovered my own frequency ranges and tricks n tips.
As a general rule those device speakers are all geared towards speech.. ie 800-4000Hz.
There's some leeway either side, but it's all about finding a happy medium.
