How often do you go to LAN parties?

You know what that reminds me of?
College!
And college was awesome =D

For me it's not just a social thing, it also lets me play with people of moderately similar skill. I've found that most games older than a few months are impossible for me to play onlne.
Most matches I get into, are either with someone who doesn't know how to play the game, or a total veteran that kicks my ass from one end to the other.
Maybe that's just me though :)
Those were the days!
We got 2-3 day LAN-parties every 2 or 3 months with 6 to 12 people, played CS and Q3 all the time.
(And drank a lot of course), but that was in high school, than everybody got internet so they moved on.

I go to the iSeries of LAN Parties (www.multiplay.co.uk) every 3 months or so. There are usually between 1000 - 1500 people playing there. The atmosphere is amazing.

In relation to the derigging/rigging. First time I went a took my PC. Then soon after I bought my laptop so the (de)rigging was much reduced, however last time (i36) I took my laptop, xbox, pc and my 37" television.

Much fun was had.

The next one is in November (13th-16th) at Newbury Racecourse, United Kingdom. There's always amazing with tournaments and prizes to be won, anyone in the UK who enjoys FPS/RTS/MMO or any other kind of game should definitely consider it.

My younger brother plays games with his friends and uses ventrilo. There's not much of a difference between that and lan parties.

I would tend to agree.

LAN parties go on for long periods of time and there's a lot of setting up and taking down to be done. When you're dog tired and have been gaming all day fuelled on junk food and soft drinks, the last thing you want to have to do is to pack everything away, tidy everything up and somehow lug all your stuff home again.

I greatly prefer arranging to meet my friends on Xbox LIVE or Teamspeak etc., and we can spend a couple of hours and then all go our separate ways with the minimum of fuss. This usually doesn't require stupid amounts of junk food or massive amounts of organisation either.

I really don't find LAN parties fun anymore, especially if you're just playing with each other which gets boring pretty quickly. It's different if you team up with your friends and battle a team of randoms but that doesn't require a LAN party setting.

LAN parties are about the atmosphere. You might as well say watch a rugby match on TV, or just listen to a CD with music on rather than going to the Stadium or a Concert.

I don't go to LAN parties seeing how they're always hosted at my house!

Same here. Although four guys playing L4D drunk might not really qualify as a "party".

In university my friends and I did Halo LAN parties on Xbox every weekend. It was awesome. 100 times better than playing online.

Halo 2 with Xbox Live support killed that as everyone just wanted to play online after that (which made it harder to play all together).

I never liked PC LAN parties. I'm not a big PC gamer, and lugging my PC around was a pain.
I have never gone to one. I don't feel like disconnecting everything, taking my entire rig with me and connecting everything again for something I can do over the internet as well. Besides, I suck at FPS's.
i go to gamerbase behind hmv in picadilly circus, london. I go with my work mates but they all suck and I totally destroy them all and thats only fun for the first few minutes. The first time was good as I wasnt used to the chair, mouse, keyboard, sound and ambient noise. Now im quite relaxed and they don't know what hit them. They think I play 24/7 but I hardly ever play, its just they suck so much. :( :( :(
Back in the years, we tried to arrange a LAN from twice per month to once each two months. I believe it is now at least a year I don't LAN with friends, their need to continuously upgrade to the latest greatest FPS just kills hours of file transfer time, not to mention I don't support the idea of... err... "file transfer".
Also, since I no more have a job, I refuse to upgrade just to play, which essentially leaves me out of the picture (luckly I had stashed some $$$ for my home PV system).

When I used to set up the LAN games I did test all the maps. I set up rotation. I generally even set up custom server configs. They do nothing of this and such after hours of file transfer we wasted hours to find a decent map, or even change to another game. This is terrible!
