I was under the impressions that DLC was licensed per-console and per-profile, so that even if you were on a console that didn't purchase the DLC, so long as a profile that was licensed to use the content signed in, it would be accessible. Or at least that's how XBLA games work, I never checked to see if it was the same for DLC.

getting the account deleted, despite the fact I held the credit card, was insane. ... they canceled. ... re-opened the account....
That's easy.

Contact the credit card company and dispute the charges both on the phone and in writing. Tell them you canceled your account with the company on {date}, and that you refuse to pay anything afterword.

Trust me, the account will be closed very quickly.

Normally, IIRC, any account on the Xbox can use DLC purchased on it and downloaded to it by any other account, but when I got a new console that didn't work because the DLC was no longer attached to the console. It was a problem for me because I had a friend who had an account on my 360 (because he hasn't bought one yet), and it was a pain to trick the damn thing into letting him play the maps without making him buying his own copies (though it was still somehow possible to trick it, which was weird).

Halo 3 often doesn't even recognize that my main account has those maps (which you have to have to play most playlists online), so I have to go to marketplace and "download" them again. Luckily, it doesn't really download all 700mb or whatever, it just recognizes that they are there already but it's still not uber convenient.

i got a 360 as an incentive prize from work and just sold it cos i couldn't be arsed with the potential hassle of RRODs, but now i'd quite like one if only for a bit of XNA goodness

is it worth getting a 360 then? i quite like to keep my consoles, i have shit from the 80s etc that i still play and which still work completely to spec, but i just get the feeling that unless microsoft fix the underlying problem instead of throwing money at the problem then eventually a 360 would just rrod in a few years when the warranty has all been forgotten about

is there a 360 release that is completely rrod-free yet?

also, my wee brother has a 360 which has just rrod'd, but which he bought off someone else, but the product itself shouldn't be too old really, can microsoft tell from it's serial number or something it's age? i know for a fact even if it was his own first-hand he'd never have kept proof of purchase anyway, being 13

i'm really not up on the latest 360 news since as a console i'd previously given up on it as something that looks awesome but ultimately unreliable

There's always a homebrew fix after that period of time. I got a 360 for free, well, just the mobo and drive really, and got the thing working after a bit of googling and effort. Not really ideal if you're gonna use it a lot and "depend" on having one, but I'm pretty satisfied with my 360 carass [smile]

Somewhat off-topic, but I've been thinking of picking up an Elite version of the 360. What's the failure rate for the Elites? Do they still RROD?

Check the manufacturing date on the back of the machine. I've got one with a date of November 2006 (I think... it's been a while since I have looked) and it still runs just fine (knock on wood).

perhaps hold off for a while, the story is theres gonna be an update to the xbox360 lineup in the upcoming months (perhaps similar to what sony have announced with the ps3 slim) if the new model does have chip shrinkage they will be a lot more reliable
If anyone is curious, I finally got my box back. It took exactly 50 days, 18 phone calls, 4 trips to UPS and 1 formal letter advising them to send the damn thing or face legal procedures.

Congratulations!! So, hastle free customer service then?? lol One of my two jobs is working for one of the two top video game retailers and we get a lot of RROD's every day and we replace them on the spot. If it happens again then i would just argue it out with your retailer using the information others have posted here. Much easier.

Why the trip to UPS 4 times?
