Well, if it were that simple, "real-life" bullying wouldn't exist either - they could just walk away or hang out in a different area.

There is such a thing as "physical coercion" in "real-life." In fact, "physical coercion" is often a very large part of "real-life" bullying. [wink]
yes well online bullying is odd to me , the victim at this time has a choice to avoid ,but say real life bullying in a school is whole diferent matter
:)
I think that online bullying also implies the threat (or act) of creating a very nasty reputation of someone that can instantly be seen/read/watched all around the world.
Most cyber bullying is perpetrated by people that know the person in real life (i.e. They are also bullying the victim in person) as far as I'm aware. It's not so much the tearing down of you virtual persona, but rather embarassing or demeaning or threatening of your real life identity online. I don't think it's as trivial as everyone is making it out to be.

Think of it this way: someone creates a website called 'anddossucks.com' and photoshops your real life picture in all sorts of embarrassing ways, and forwards the website on to all of your real life friends. Turning of the PC doesn't exactly solve this.

What if your school bully knows your email address and sends you threats? What if they do so from fake emails so you can't block them?
How do you 'choose to avoid' that kind of harassment without being affected by it (e.g. if you have to give up your email address because of the harassment, then that shows the bullying is 'real')?
What if bullies have your phone number, so even when you go home from school and are 'choosing to be alone', you can get still harassing SMSs sent to you?

The psychological impact of bullying is still felt in these situations despite there being no physical contact...

They could, but what if they've spent a couple of years building their reputation on the site, getting to know people etc?
Sadly, it is all too common for people to blame the person being bullied for the bullying.
