Send your name to Mars...
You can type anything in there, how many non-names will have been entered? The internet can be very unpredictable, like when they did that online voting for the name of a whale :)
Cool...thanks for the link.
Yea it's hard to imagine how much spam they've probably got :-o
Next time they should let us upload images to be sent into orbit. I'd like to goatse / tubgirl some martians. :-]

Whoa whoa whoa...that might be crossing the line - you trying to start an interplanatary conflict? We should just send Paula Abdul into space, that'd really piss the martians off. :-o

If this ever gets posted on 4chan, I suspect around 98%.

If that happens, I hope that no advanced alien race will ever find the chip. They'll think that 4chan represents humanity, and they'd ban all attempts to make contact with us, ever. Or worse, imagine you could upload images. The aliens would probably blow up earth in an act of self defense.

I've got more than just my name on mars. I've got the four Lithium Ion Batteries powering the Mars Exploration Rovers. I've got another two heading to mars this Fall on the Mars Science Laboratory.
Although the MERs have solar arrays for some of the low power ancillary equipment the high power and communications equipment require batteries to reach the elevated rates. The packs were only intended to last for 90 days. Currently, they are still operational after more than 5 years.
Hopefully, MSL will have the same success.

I wanted to send DNA up in the form of a finger print on the pack somewhere, but JPL was clearly opposed to any type of environmental contamination. Especially after meeting me.
