Multilingual idea!

I had this great idea that would be useful on the GameDev site. It would be a section with translations of all the usual game menu phrases into several languages. Such as START GAME, EXIT, SAVE GAME, SINGLE PLAYER, MULTIPLAYER, CHOOSE LEVEL, and so on. They could be in French, German, Spanish etc. so then we could all make our games in several languages and at least the main menus would be understandable. What do you say, fellow europeans and internationalists? It couldn't be on the Wiki though since people might put offensive phrases in forreign languages and all sorts of hilarity would occur. For example: START.....Début EXIT......Sortie (I don't know if these are the correct translations cause I'm not French)

Good idea; however, your best bet for getting a quick translation is probably just asking on IRC for most things. Even the gamedev channel has people from almost every country imaginable. Off the top of my head using IRC in #gamedev you could quickly get translations for Swedish, Arabic, Finnish, Dutch, Greek, Danish, and Spanish. Other IRC channels have more diverse regions where you can easily get languages from eastern Asia. Russia might be harder.

What you want is a translation memory or a TMX database. Launchpad.net has a big one because everything that's in Ubuntu is in there (and more). Just upload your translation files there and the system will suggest translations for you.
