Distractions...
I was on the tube today, a long journey through the under belly of England's capital...I was doodling away on a piece of paper, I was designing the core mechanics of guilds in a little fantasy game I'm currently trying to design so that it could simply be made, that will be the day. Any way, so there I was and then I saw this magazine; I have come to believe that this magazine was placed there by some menacing vessel in order to distract me from my primary goal... So I gave it a read. Here is the game I came up with. I'm going to give you a small air rifle, then I'm going show you in a first person shooter sort of way, how to use that rifle, you are going to shoot a couple of targets with accuracy, none of this auto-aim comforts. Then we are going to progress from that, I'm going to give you access to a shop in which you can buy many a cool gadget and many a powerful weapon. Then I'm going to allow you to go out into a large map, the weather conditions will be simulated and so will the time of day, your going to try and shoot something, depending on what you shoot I'm going to give you money. Remember not to shoot anything on my "protected" list like women or cubs/children. So there is the premise, this magazine was of the hunting persuasion. The more money you get, the more kit you can buy and the more maps you can unlock, there will be side missions and achievements for you to work for and secrets for you to find within each map. You can show your friends your best kill; I'll even let you buy a camera so you can take screenshots to show your family. You buy gear like camouflage suits so the beasts can't see you. You can buy items for your head up display, like sat-nav, a watch and a compass. You could buy many different rifles, with many different ammos and scopes. This would mix simulation with fun, I feel that you either have a simulation or you have a game, so I'm going to take auto-aim off, if you miss, oh well. But I'm still going to make it fun, I'm not trying to deny you of that, It is still going to be a challenging and rewarding game play. You know what else, I'm going to let you go cooperative with this one, you can scout through forests, savannas, mountains and the bitter arctic maps together and hopefully turn it into a competition. So what do you think? Is this sport good enough to take to the computer screen? Can you picture it in your head, like I can? Is it worth following up on, finding somebody with a nice First-person shooter code and seeing where we can go from their, or is it another distraction?
