Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition out today!
Sadly, lots of the charm is lost in the regraphic. Damn you nostalgia... damn you....
I don't mind the new backgrounds (I actually think they're kinda good), but the character art leaves a lot to be desired. Honestly, I could probably have lived with the character graphics if it wasn't for Guybrush. I don't know, something about him just is horribly wrong. And it does ruin the game for me. I know it's shallow, but that's just how I feel.
you can run the game with the original graphics :)
I've downloaded it with a devkit and playing it over lunchtime. It's pretty sweet, since I never completed the original :)
.... 500 MBytes!!!!! I miss my Amiga.

Well, I'm among the few who never played the originals. I tried the demo of this on Xbox Live Arcade earlier, but I was immediately turned off by the comedy. It just didn't work for me. If anything, it made the dialogue awkward. This is a bit of harsh term, but I'd describe the jokes as very cookie-cutter.
Since people seem to love it so much, I'm going to assume I'm missing something and go try it again. [smile]

The game is pretty good. In my opinion, the background art fits quite well the original atmosphere, and so does the new music. The only real annoyance is Guybrush's idiot-look.

Completely agree. Started it up last night and when the start screen transitioned from old to new, I actually thought it looked great (sudden well of nostalgia damn near brought a tear to my eye). Then I saw Guybrush and it all fell apart, although not enough to completely ruin the game for me.
Interestingly, I played through the new game on the weekend and last night I was struck by how much better the "click and walk to" control is over the stupid 3d movement control. I also really liked the "right click as default action" mechanic.
edit: 500 MB oliii? it was 2.2gigs on steam!

yep, apparently the size difference is to do with uncompressed art and audio

I remember MI2 coming on 12 floppies for the amiga! It was my prime motivation to buy a hard drive. [grin]
and while we're on the subject, Lucasarts, I will give you more of my hard-earned for an MI2 remake. Get on with it!!
