Racing games on the Wii?
I know the Wii is not particularly powerful as a chunk of silicon, but I find the controller much more fun for MarioKart than a joypad. Ideally I'd have a PS3 with a proper steering wheel but I don't have the cash for that, so I'm looking for recommendations for a less silly Wii driving game than MK. Nothing too serious - I'm after something that combines half-decent vehicle behaviour with fun - certainly not after some hard-core simulation. It should have a learning curve that makes it fun to pick up and not require me to be 12 to master.
Also, I don't like games that act like how I decorate my car is more important than how it drives. I think my ideal game would have me racing against other cars on race-tracks (rather than street racing) that are a mixture between road and off-road - a bit like rally-racing but racing directly against other cars, working to overtake them and having the odd crash (but not just a big smash-fest).
Could I be more picky? Does anything fit this at all?

We're making TrackMania Wii, which will be out at some point soonish (Although I'm not able to say when yet).

I race a car simulator league but honestly it's hard to find a racing game that makes me grin more widely than Excitetruck on the Wii. It's not super serious but I think you'll be able to find something you like.
I'd keep an eye on Dirt 2. I quite like the Flatout series, although I dont think they have anything on the wii.
Everything is better with Metal.

if you think programming is like sex, you probably haven't done much of either.-------------- - capn_midnight

I second this because I was on the dev team for Excite Truck. It was a launch game, so you can probably pick it up pretty cheaply by now. It's only marginally more serious than Mario Kart, but the driving mechanics are pretty fun. Also, if you like huge jumps you'll love Excite Truck.
Quote: Original post by SamithET sounds fun, but not exactly what I'm after. I kind of want a light-hearted, serious game, if that makes sense... for instance I'd love a game that features real tracks but I don't want to be messing with my suspension settings.Quote: Original post by Ravuya

I'm not sure I know what I want... my driving game experience is really limited to MarioKart (fun but dumb) and Need For Speed (just dumb, but in another way).
I don't really know of any other racing games for the Wii like what you're describing besides Need for Speed (or even that many racing games period). I wasn't particularly fond of Carbon, the controls were so sluggish that in the hour or so I spent playing the game I never really felt like I was able to play the game as I was always fighting the controls. I haven't tried the other one (Undercover?) though, so maybe that's a better experience.
NASCAR cart racing???
Haven't played it, probably the closest description to "Real-tracks/Lighthearted and simple".
From what I remembered it reviewed decently, but as I said, I haven't actually played it so I can't give it a thumbs up or down.
