It's possible. The fuel gauge on the vehicle marks how much food you've ate. Filling it to the max is actually too much. You can get in the cave, I don't know why you had so much trouble, I actually hit it on the first try. Just line the cave up in the middle of the screen. Weighing the gas pedal down with the alarm clock helps.
