Yeah there are a lot of games (many more from korea) which are usually "Free to play", try typing "free MMOG" "Free MMORPG" and so on into google and you will find websites dedicated to listing free MMOGs.

I play a lot of "Combat Arms" which is actually quite a high quality free to play fps. There is a rival game called "Soldier Front", but my only experience with it wasn't the best.

I haven't yet seen a mention of TrackMania Nations Forever, and ScummVM has a bunch of free (older) games.

Bejewelled Blitz (on Facebook) ruins my work on a regular basis.

What types of games are you into?

Savage 2 - Free (has pay option) hybrid RTS + RPG. Plays like Warcraft 3 + Guild Wars and has native Windows / Linux / Mac clients

Frets On Fire X (aka FoFiX).
Basically free Rock Band/Guitar Hero... I say basically, it practically is. USB Guitar Hero/Rock Band equipment is compatible with it, and you can download direct decryptions of every past Rock Band and Guitar Hero game for it, as well as tons of user-charted content... Pretty damn win. Especially as it's all free, even the content (except the equipment, but you can use a keyboard instead, which works almost as well) p_o

I also second Dwarf Fortress and Cave Story. Excellent freeware games!

Combat Arms is a free alternative to Counter Strike Source. I personally greatly prefer combat arms to CSS.

Dwarf Fortress is awesome.

It's hard to get into, but once you get used to the interface and gameplay it's just amazing all the stuff you can do.
