uninstall it from your laptop, and then use the disks the program came on to install it on your desktop.

Contact Adobe.
Harr matey! There be other options, I tells ya...!
Im not sure if its still the case, but at least until recently you didnt need the discs, you just needed your registration key.

The trial versions available for download were fully featured, just time limited, and could be unlocked with your valid registration key. If thats still the case, just download the trial and enter your key.

Its been a few years since I last installed photoshop though, so they might have changed their methods in the meantime.

If you manage to find the install disks, it is legal (at least according to my copy of the EULA of CS4) to install the software to both a desktop and a laptop at the same time by using the same key, but you are expected to be the only user of the key - that is, both instances are exclusively in your own use.

If you have any troubles with this, I second GameCreator's advice. Adobe is very helpful in licensing issues as well as with replacement disks.

Software Migration software should do the trick.
I haven't used windows in a long time, but if my memory serves me, you should be able to use I think it was called .. "PC Linker" and simply choose the program to duplicate.

Another manual method would be to locate all the registry entries and hidden data files and copy them all manually to the other computer.

If your copy is indeed legal, then just contact adobe and give them your account information and they should be able to send you replacement discs.

No offence, but methinks you obtained your copy whilst sailing the high seas aboard a tall ship.

At least it appears most people do in any case.

The registration key still for the trial edition still works. Also, it seems like Adobe is going the digital download route in the future. CS4 came with no paper documentation compared to CS3. And with digital downloads, I can honestly see CS5 being totally digital.

Even if for some reason your copy of Photoshop burnt up so you lost not only the disc but the key, as long as you registered the product (which you're practically forced too regardless), you can easily call Adobe and to get replacement discs. And your serial key can be found under Your Account->View Product Registrations. If this is not the case (which it seems like it, and a lot of other people have mentioned it), I'm not going to go there.
