So, anyone here played Battlefield Heroes yet? From what I've seen playing the tutorial it looks cute and potentially fun. I would love to play a 'real' game, but unfortunately it cannot find a suitable server to play on. And it appears I'm not the only one having problems. I will keep trying. It may not be today, it may not tomorrow, but some day I will become a hero, damn it!
I had the beta for three weeks and never even made it to the login screen. Then it went live! Not really the best sign.

Same.

I think the servers were offline..?
I currently can't find any servers to join. When I find one, I get booted in a matter of minutes. Smells like typical PunkBuster bullshit to me (among other things).
I've played quite a bit of it. It's a neat game. I don't see myself becoming as addicted to it as I was with BF2142. It just feels too clunky in some areas. For example, I find that people have way too much health. You can get a few headshots before the person has the time to turn around and start jumping around to then kill you. Even knifing someone isn't an auto-kill.

Else then that it looks nice and I haven't experienced any lag on my inspiron 1520.
I had the beta for a while but then stopped playing. I tried again last week and kept getting kicked- I believe this is a punk buster issue :S

It's a pretty cool game, but as others have said, I am not a fan of not being able to 1 hit kill people, especially with knife. Lots of people complain that commando is over powered, but I say it's way underpowered.

I've tried it.

You have to play as the "Royal Army" team (vaguely British forces) if you want to find a server. It seems like the vast majority of the players pick the "National Army" team (vaguely German forces). This means that if you pick National Army you will have a hard time finding a match, and you are very likely to be dropped once you do. If you pick Royal army you can find a server almost instantly. Because the more experienced players tend to pick National even though the characters and abilities seem to be identical, the game is very much *not* balanced yet. No matter which side I played on, it seemed like National won about 3/4 of the time. This will probably correct itself with time, but it might not.

I did not like the way Abilities work. Gazillion pointed out that head-shots and knifing are not an auto-kill. They CAN be auto-kill. It turns out that this is due to the Abilities system. If you have boundless time on your hands, you can improve your character's "Ability". This means that the kids who somehow play for 37 hours-per-day end up not only getting their twitch-reflex mastery of the game, but their weapons do more damage and their healing and other actions are more powerful.

I found that on the servers, there are quite a few prepubescent jerks who play on National, who have already invested a few million hours in playing to maximize all their skills. They then routinely slaughter the Royal army, and then a few say things like "ur noobs i have 1 shot kill u die gg"
You shouldn't be able to be killed from 1 shot on full health, no matter what abilities you have. And I am pretty sure that you can only vs people with the similar levels to you, so you shouldn't be versing level 37 people on first play.
Has anyone else tried this? The game is free for those who are relunctant [smile]

Anyways, I got to level 10 over the weekend (not that much time spent on it) and I finally understand how the game plays a bit more. I'm starting to use my abilities more strategically and if I'm coupled with another soldier we can hold a flag pretty steadily.

I still think all characters have too much health (overall) but aside from that I'm enjoying myself. I might actually spend some money on the game to customize my character slightly... I'm eying those aviators and that cigar hehehe.

Yeah, I finally got in! If you happen to encounter a National Army soldier named WanM, don't shoot him, he's harmless. [grin]

Agreed. I think it is supposed to be at least a semi casual game, and noobs like me should be given a chance to run around like an idiot for at least a couple of seconds before getting killed by highly skilled eleven year old.
