Latested Windows update now causes browsers to redirect me. Did it happen to you?

So I'm virus-scanning my PC and getting all the latest updates for my software like a good little nerd should. Then Windows XP tells me the only way to get the new update was through Internet Exploder. Curses! Well, so I update that piece of garbage and get my updates... but ever since, my browsers ( both Mozilla and IE ) will randomly redirect to some site I never clicked on. Mind you, it is not a bad site but something random like "yellowpages.com" or a website on making boiled eggs. Weird stuff. Anyway, the bottom-left of my browser displays something like "search-tracker.net". I immediately think virus and scan my comp. Not a single threat. Haas this happened since your last update or is this just me problem? O.o
Holy crap, you can read!
Sounds like spyware to me.

That's nothing to do with Windows update. Your PC is infected with Spyware (not the same as a virus). You need an anti-spyware ap such as Spybot Search & Destroy.

Could be this. Or anything with the same idea. Did you download "updates" from anywhere else than Windows Update?
Yea mang, Microsoft always sends me my updates by e-mail too, and then requires me to download it from a shady looking website.
