Thinking of applying for a game development job.

I'm thinking of applying for a programming position at a east cost company called Other Ocean. Does any one here have any experience with this company? I'm wondering about things like the work environment and usually hours of work. I've never worked for a game development studio but my current job uses mostly the same skill set. Another issue I'm concerned about is vacation time. At my current job I'm getting three weeks off a year plus a week during Christmass. What kind off vacation time am I looking at in the game industry?
You can always apply, and then turn down an offer if the hours aren't to your liking.

I don't know about Canada or America (or wherever this is), but in Australia every full-time employee gets 4 weeks (20 days) of holiday time (unless you "bargained" it away under the short-lived "choices" system).

The best thing to do is get ahold of whoever is in charge of recruiting there, and ask them these questions. Also see if you can get in touch with the existing programming staff and ask for their points of view as well.

Unless you get insanely lucky and someone from that exact studio reads this thread, it's probably going to work best to get the info straight from the studio itself [wink]

Can someone working in the game industry tell me if vacation time usually goes up with job experience. What kind of time off would a senior programmer get?

We get 12 days (earned a half-day per pay period) of paid time off per year, plus 3 days granted Jan 1st and 2 days granted Jun 1st, for a total of 17 paid days we can take whenever we want. Plus Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, Labor Day, and Memorial Day. Those same days get used for sick days.
