Fruity Loops Guitar and drums
Hey all,
Me and a mate have been working on some of the music for a game I'm designing, and so far we have written it out in Guitar Pro 5, converted to a midi, imported that midi into Fruity Loops 8 XXL, and now have the tracks there with the sound on them.
We have found good piano and bass guitar generators, but are still in need of a good Distortion Guitar sound, and full drum set sound for two more tracks.
I have googled some results with out much luck, and als am not sure if we should be using VST's or just generators.
Please help!
Cheers,
James

It really depends on your budget. Can you afford to purchase some commercial VSTs? If so, I'd check out East West's Ministry of Rock. It does take a bit of massaging and programming, but you can get some good results with it. It has some really nice bass, guitar and drum samples. There are also many others to pick from as well.
If you do not have any budget then I recommend recording guitar, then using a distortion plugin to make it fit the sound you're going for. It's been ages since I've used FL Studio so I don't know if it audio support is all that great.
Regarding the drums, I'd try combining what samples you have available then taking some care to process them. FL XXL 8 have any loops bundled with it? Back when I was using FL 1 (yep.... that far back) they had some really nice percussion loops bundled with it. Maybe that's a solution. Or you could use a friend with a drum set. :)

So you think VST's are the way to go? I don't really have any experience with them yet so I think I'll have to work on that.
Yeah it did come with some example loops already packaged but I thought that it would just play that sample, not the on we have made, I'll give it a go.

Did you check out FL Slayer for the guitar? Also, FL's Fruity Pad Control (aka FPC) comes with several full drum kits that are suitable for rock songs.
Assuming getting a proper audio recording is not possible for you, the most authentic route for programming distorted guitars in FLStudio is probably by taking a generator or sample of clean, plucked notes (an acoustic guitar sim might be fine, maybe even a harpsichord at a push!), feed it into an amp sim VST effect (eg. Nick Crow 8505), then finally feed that into an impulse response mic/cabinet simulation (eg. keFIR loaded with one of the GuitarHack Impulses). It's pretty CPU intensive though so you'll probably want to bounce it down to an audio track before moving on.

Well pretty much all of that made no sense to me haha.
I know about VST's and generators to some extant, but I don't know how to use them, or an Amp Sim VST or an impulse response mic/cabinet sim so that might be a problem.
As a placeholder until i learn a little more about it, I used one of the generators out of FL Slayer with an ok result but nothing spectacular.

Ok, then you need to learn. Not understanding VST effects when using FLStudio is like not using the black keys on a piano and wondering why your tune that was supposed to be in F# major sounds wrong.
Read the help files, look at the sample projects that come with FLStudio, and Google for help:
