I just came across what is probably one of the most innovative game mechanics I've seen in a long time:
">Experimental Game: Shadow Physics
The basis idea is that lights cast shadows of objects against surfaces, and these shadows act as surfaces for a 2D platformer. It's still in its early prototype stages, but I think this mechanic has a lot of potential if they do it right. Thoughts?
OK... Could make for a reasonably fun puzzle game, I guess.

the major problem is u have to control 2 things

the player
the light source

Its like that 2d in 3d world platformer idea here recently, nice idea but the flaws outweigh the novelty

btw why couldnt they capture feed off the screen?

Once again the barely literate zedz knows all the flaws in something he has never played!

All hail truly the greatest mind of our time!

[rolleyes]
Not quite a "portal" level idea, but I think it's extremely creative and could work out well if done right.

Your description reminds me of Fez (clicky for video). I guess it could be called an experimental game too :)

Using such information like lighting depth textures(?) is very good steep.
Imo,the quality of game graphics and FPS camera abilityes/controls now differs too strong. And I think that they should better do more advanced player's collision system in 3D ,based on depth info, for example like
">that

You should check out
">Crush
for PSP.
one solution would be to one control one of the facets
eg have the player controlled by the computer (perhaps have multiple players) ala 'lemmings' trying to make it to the exit.
u control the light, creating a path way
