Today most games are becoming incresingly complicated. Huge Multi Multi million dollar budgets are common and Many games shoot to be hyper realistic first person shooters or the like. What you don't see as much of anymore is the old school 2D games that we all love and know we would buy if they made more of. I am asking "What old school game franchise would you want revived or what type of 2D game would you like to see more of. Be it zelda style top down or innovative platformers. if you want you can even state changes to the old games that you would like to see." This is just out of curriosity after reading the GAMEINFORMER may reader response titled "Take a step back." I look forward to hearing everyones oppinions. megaman
i'd also like sim city to come back as something a bit more like the original , while it has evolved a lot i'd have liked it to take another path (more serious , keep the funny bits of the 1st but let the gameplay itself stay serious)

Have you tried Megaman 9? It's new :)
Marshmallow Wars and Champions of Zulula, fighting games that were fun before street fighter
Strider. That game (and the soundtrack) were incredible!

The classic Chrono Trigger. Only because I am playing it right now.

I feel this game, if they kept it the same like the new DS remake, and just graphically enhanced it to 3d would be amazing. Being able to fully articulate themselves in their artistic creations is something they couldn't do back then, but most certainly could do now.

Another great 2d game that was done horribly for its 5th iteration is the Heroes of Might and Magic series. The 3rd and 4th iterations, of which I own and have played, where amazing and very enjoyable. The 5th was done by a new company, after the original went bankrupt. This caused a severe drop in quality and the amount of content delivered.

We need a revival of platform games. Some of the early ninety's games deserve sequels that can live up to the originals: Crystal Caves or Jetpack (that game was só much fun to edit!) or a new Keen game.

I think I'm gonna install DosBox again...
Monster Bash. Loved playing it when I was younger.
Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, Black Crypt (good old Amiga days)... I am currently in the process of making a clone. Look at my sig for more details.

!!!

I used to play (and edit) that game all the time when I was a kid! I never could remember what it was called though, thank you! (Actually, that link says Jetpack 2 is in development?)

But on topic, maybe a new Tyrian game, still 2D, but higher resolution sprites and etc.
