What's in a Name?

Over the last couple months I've been thinking that I should set up a new email account and re-register on some forums under a different name, perhaps my real name. It's not as if it is hard to find out what it is now anyways. Why do this? Well I'm not sure if Durakken even sounds professional or not. A lot of people I know go by their screen names and it is more normal for me to know people by them than it is to know them by their real name. Durakken is nearly a 100% unique name and it's quite easy to dig up things about me from that on google. Plenty of what I say out of context, which a lot people do to me, sounds really horrible. I also tend to get in fights with moderators which then edit and make me look worse... and not to mention it's years of piled up stuff and in circles of gamers and artists. I still like my name, but it has just so much piled on it that it may hurt me to keep using it than just doing something as simple as tossing it out and start using another name. So... think I should change it?
If you really are fed up with your old name, you might as well start using a new one. I don't see anything wrong with Durakken myself, but if you think it's time for a change, maybe it is. I've got a few different names I post as in other forums, such as "Trazoi" (contraction of my GDNet name and my website) and "Dave TZ" (for when I want my real name in there somewhere). I usually include my acutal name in the signature. It doesn't make a good username because it's pretty common.

I'd be a bit wary about reregistering at forums where you've already posted however. If I find someone's starting posting under a different name without warning, I'd get very skeptical. It's often against the forum rules. I'd ask to change.

Unless you've got an atrocious posting history, I wouldn't worry about posting history. I know I've made a fool of myself multiple times, but the number of good posts and the sheer crushing weight of all the banal posts have hopefully buried them.

P.S. Why is this in Game Design?

Very easy to answer. I am mainly looking at it from a more professional point of view...not just I don't like this name, but rather will this name effect whatever i do.

So you're designing a game about naming yourself for forum usage?...
If that's your thought process this would be better suited in The Business (and Law) Of Game Development, I would however suspect this gets moved to the lounge.
ahh well sometimes i'm stupid and forget what forums there are ^.^ This would be better there.
