About accessible 3D game-making kits?
Whoa there, put the flames away. I'm not asking for a 3D game making program.
I was thinking about the concept of 3D game making kits like....FPS creator...3D game studio...is there any one program which is good at this function? Obviously they are not going to be particularly flexible or powerful, but is there one which is competent? If there is a need for this sort of thing, what advice do you have from a design perspective? Thanks guys.
The Unreal Engine? Source Engine? etc
Ask a better question. What are you trying to achieve?

No no, I'm not talking about engines like that. I'm talking about "game making programs". The ones which allow people with limited programming ability to make games in a "point and click" kind of way.

From what I'm seeing, all of these programs really fail to be a viable solution for game development. I am just wondering if there is a good one which I am missing, or if you guys think that this concept can be improved on in order to make it viable. Sorry for not explaining myself very lucidly in my original post.

There are no "point and click" game maker programs that are going to be a truly viable solutions for game development. There are some more specific game maker applications that fill specific niches, like FPS Creator, but don't expect to compete with CoD: Modern Warfare, GRAW 2, UT3, etc.

Of course nobody is looking to compete with AAA titles using these things. But do you think that the concept could be implemented in a useful way, or is it a concept which is flawed from the start?
I'm trying to feel out the topic because I'm playing with the idea of making something of the sort.
Unity just came out for Windows. Maybe that's a bit closer?

Yes! Unity is pretty much what I'm talking about. It also looks like a simply incredible tool. I was thinking about writing a language for my kit though, like DarkBASIC, as opposed to the fully interactive 3D sandbox which Unity has. I would much rather write a system for parsing and compiling a language than write something like Unity has.
The problem is making the language simple enough for people to pick up just by browsing through some samples. The users who I am catering to are the ones who are too impatient to get through a C++ tutorial and they just want something free and easy to understand.
