Clicky Quite amazing, no? [Edited by - RedOne on March 24, 2009 8:09:05 PM]
That guy lives about an hour's drive away from me. The local television news stations have been all over the story. He still has to use a walker to get around, but he's no longer confined to a wheelchair.

Here is an account from that guy's hometown newspaper. Spider bite sets miracle in motion for Mantecan.

Incidentally, he was arrested last week for contempt of court stemming from a domestic violence case. NorCal Paraplegic Cured by Spider Bite, Arrested. Details are sketchy.

No.

Well, its always amazing when somebody undergoes a recovery that they didnt think was possible. But the chances that the spider bite was what cured him are extremely low.

Try here for a more scientific analysis of what might have happened, from a neurologist's point of view.

Summary for tl;dr - Its far more likely that his part of his neurological damage had slowly recovered over time and the remaining problems had muscle atrophy and psychological issues as major factors, and the physical therapist recognised the potential and the therapy was able to increase his lower function in line with his already increased neurological ability.

it is possible, sort of like the uber-hemopathy (FWIW i think is bollux)

IIRC theres a spider in the amazon (i think the most dangerous in the world)

apparently if u get bitten u get an erection that wont go down for hours (the new viagra)

Kind of begs the question "dangerous to who?"...
:D
Has he also discovered he can climb walls and has developed a new desire to dress in red and blue spandex? ;)

I agree with Caffeine. Guy had a spider bite then decided to go through rehab. Had he tried rehab recently before the bite? Most likely it was psychological.

Actually the worlds most venemous spider is the Australian Funnel Web, though it has caused few deaths, being a primarily defencive creature.

The chances that the spider bite 'cured' the mans condition is slim to none, not many spiders use neurotoxins, which would actually have an effect on the nervous system - not that its a good effect.
