Imagine the introductory movie of an RPG playing an epic piece of Power Metal instead of the ever-repeating female chorus and cinema trailer style music.

Yay.

Oh yes it would!

Imagine the introductory movie of an RPG playing an epic piece of Power Metal instead of the ever-repeating female chorus and cinema trailer style music. That would be much more intense and highlight the drama instead of just looking like some show-off attempt.

This is exactly what I was looking for haha. I remember Final Fantasy X had Rammstein make a song for it, and it was really heavy. So would it fit into a game like, sorta like a darker version of Kingdom Hearts minus the Disney and the cute? I am just referencing this to the style of gameplay how it has the worlds normal music, but once you encounter an enemy, the metal begins!

I was going to say PainKiller as well. I would love to make a game about death metal. My idea is basically to model amon amarth and just some insane viking voyage or some studid shit.

NBA2K, Madden, Maneater, Killing Floor, Sims

Nothing better than ripping apart zombies in Left4Dead with some blinding speed metal on. It's not in the game, but it damn well should be...

It worked really well in Red Alert 3, the menu music especially prepped you for an epic battle.

It's all about setting the mood. Something heavy will get people pumped up ready for an action game, but it won't work for a tear-jerking scene where a main character dies in a Final Fantasy game.

Pick the right tool for the job.

I think Heavy Metal would work great in a fantasy RPG. Yes, it's before the time of electric guitars, but it's also before the time of a lot of the music in there.

A lot of metal songs are about fantasy themes anyways.

Your barbarian can storm a castle, slay 300 zombies, and behead a dragon. But a song about the same thing is out of place? And a big orchestra piece isn't?

This reminds me of the crowd stomping to the tune of 'we will rock you' at a jousting match in the movie A Knight's Tale. Wasn't out of place at all. It was cool.

Too true!
I can't wait till I'm at the stage where I can start working on the music for my game. So much metal...

As as example, look at Dio's
>Holy Diver
. And check out his discography. It's all about fantasy themes for the most part. There is an entire genre of that type of metal, but I'm not really aware of any other artists in that genre.

Blind Guardian did make some music for Sacred 2

I did not know this. Being mildly obsessed with Blind Guardian I checked out the song they did for the game on
">youtube
. It was awesome.

End Of Line

Another band i found that uses a lot of fantasy themes in their songs is Hammerfall. They are a very good power metal band who base a lot of their songs on the Templars and also lots and lots of fighting haha.

Sonata Arctica also have great fantasy songs, their speed is incredible. But they also have songs about modern things (see e.g. Blank File).

Personally, I am also a fan of Dragon Force, who are often subject of dispute. I like their mix of typical elements of power metal and synthie sounds that remind of Wonderboy themes.

If you like really fast power metal, have a look at them :D
