Am I the only person who loves The GIMP's user interface? Or who was upset when they removed some features in 2.6 (menu on toolbox for starters) no doubt at the behest of the "it's not Photoshop" people?

This mess (linked earlier) would be disastrous for someone like me - with multiple monitors, who often edits multiple large images at once, referencing other programs at the same time.

(And I know, because that's what Inkscape does. It's most annoying for many non-trivial usage scenarios.)

Agreed. I did like the old interface, though I don't really mind the new one all that much. Most of my image manipulation requirements can be met by Paint, but I do have GIMP installed on all my PC's for doing transparencies and some neat effects.

I really like how the toolbox is not contained as an MDI child in a large window, this allows for better efficiency across multiple (3 or 4) monitors depending on where I am working. It also means that I can devote one screen to the tools, and other screens to different images.
I use the gimp to make graphics for my game. It's ok. For most things it works fine except that sometimes I find it too difficult to use. Also it tends to freeze up when you try to save your work but this only happens occasionally. I have used Photoshop CS4 which seems to be difficult to use. I used it a couple of times and decided not to use it. I stuck with the gimp - it's ok for now until I start getting into 3D graphics.

The last time I tried the GIMP, it completely lacked support for color profiling, which essentially made it useless for what I was doing: minor editing of photographs before printing them. The GIMP is probably fine if you're creating images that are never going to leave digital space. I've found it unusable for editing images. So, I plunked down the cash for Photoshop CS4, and got excellent support for my camera's raw file format.
