Online to-do list nirvana!
I've searched many times in vain for the perfect to-do list web app. Things like Remember the Milk just have way too many features for me. Here's what I need:
* Have multiple named to-do lists that are easy to switch between.
* Add a bunch of items to the list just by typing the item and hitting enter to start the next one.
* Reorder the tasks with drag and drop, and hopefully be able to order them like a tree (indenting some to make sub-lists).
* When I check them off, leave them on the list until I clear them off myself, but make it easy to clear them all at once.
That's it. Not rocket science. I really should have built it myself years ago. But as usual, Google came through with something even better than what I’d imagined. Here it is (for Gmail users only):
Google Tasks
Earlier today, someone leaked an actual standalone version of the Tasks plugin for Gmail, but Google pulled it within hours. But the URL I posted here will get you to a standalone copy of exactly what shows up in the Gmail plugin. And it's exactly what I wanted. I just created one of Chrome's Application Shortcuts to it on my desktop, and it's working great for me.
This is going to save me from going through a 5″x8″ yellow note pad about every 2 weeks, which is my current rate for burning through todo lists at work.
Thanks for the tip. I'm currently organising a trip to Europe and this may prove quite valuable to me.

I don't have internet connection at my rented room, so I prefer portable to do list software. There is one at portableapps.com, but there is a free version of PortablePIM which is good enough for me.
ToDo List by AbstracSpoon is another favourite of mine. I prefer it more than the one at portableapps.com.
ToDoList, PortablePIM, and WikiPad (it can be run from a thumb drive, just copy the installation directroy to the thumd drive) is something I always have on my thumb drive.
