best program for making sprites?
Hey, I'm interested in starting to make sprites for my own games, but I'm not exactly sure where to start. I been searching for a program that would be good for creating sprites, but I haven't picked one yet. I've heard of a couple that might be good(I'm looking for free ones), such as Paint.NET, The Gimp, Graphics Gale, Inkscape, and the Allegro Sprite Editor.
If you guys could help me choose a good editor for some simple game sprites, that would be great.
Also, if you knew of any tutorials for that editor you suggest, that would be good too.
Well there's MS-Paint which you likely already have, its quite simple but i think its a good tool since you don't have to mess with any complicated features and can focus more on your technique. There are plenty of other people though who would recommend the others you've mentioned, it really boils down to what your comfortable with using. If you find you need different features later on you can always switch to a different tool.

The "Best" program for something like 2D pixel art will not help you by much. The main thing you will want to look for is something that allows an easy and fast way to select your pallet. Also something that adds dithering to make it easier can always help, but it's not required. The program in the end really doesn't matter, its how much skill and talent you have. I use MS Paint to outline my drawings and I color it in Photoshop because I hate selecting colors in MS Paint.
Just pick something and get started. Best of luck!
