Streaming audio over LAN?
My workstation at home is in my living room. I have another old PC that I use as a media center that I have hooked up to a reasonably nice sound system. What I'd like to do is have the audio from my workstation played through that speaker system without running another wire.
Anyone know of a program that would do that? The easiest would be if it just pretended to be an actual audio device on my workstation, but behind the scenes just streamed it off to my other PC.
Why not just set up network file sharing and share your music folder?
It's not just music. I'm recording audio on my workstation, and I'd like to see how it sounds through the big speakers without having to walk across the room to the other PC or running an extraneous audio cable.
Look for UPnP AV software. Set up your PC as a MediaServer and ControlPoint and set up your media center as a MediaRenderer.
Alternatively you can look for Zeroconf/Bonjour compatible software, a competing but similar standard.

you could use remote desktop to log into the PC and press play?
