I've got this, USB external Hard Drive. It currently only hold 320GB's hence, its too small for my current needs. Can I open this box up and replace the hard drive with another HDD I have? Or is the WS USB hard drive only designed for specific drives?
The controller boards in those things are usually just generic IDE/SATA chips, you should have no trouble replacing the drive. Just crack it open and check if it has an IDE or a SATA drive, and don't put a drive in larger than was originally intended (1TB according to that link).

Of course, if you have any old drive lying around, it wouldn't harm to test it out before you spend money.

Ha! Yes that wouldn't be too smart!
Or you could spend a tonne of money and just get this.

Another option is to buy a cheap HDD enclosure and a cheap HDD, and keep your existing drive.
