I think women may get into this kind of crap. It's stuff they actually care.

Leave the dragon slaying to us.

I think you'd be surprised.

Even male gamers find it interesting to explore life developments in a game context (where the stakes are low) before they have to deal with it in real life.

A male would never get pregnant. Tell me how a male would be as interested on that as a female would do. Instinctically, giving birth is almost a reason to exist for many females, a thing a male would never be able to understand.

He's never going to slay dragons in real-life, either.

He also has little chances of driving a 1 millon dollar Ferrari, fliying a war-plane, fighting Hitler, or commanding a futuristic hi-tech army from god view.

Does that means he is naturaly more interested in getting pregnant than into doing those things?

No, but does it mean he's less likely? I honestly don't understand why being pregnant would be any different?

I'm not saying that I would particularly enjoy a game where that's the basic premise - to be perfectly honest, I doubt many women would find the idea all that appealing either - but I don't think you can discount all guys just because being pregnant is a "girl thing".

I'm generalising dude :) Most men have penises, yet there are some who don't. That doesn't mean men aren't meant to have a penis. Yes, there are males who would deeply enjoy the idea of getting pregnant (I guess so) but would you consider them to be representative of the market most males tend to get into?

So... what's your point? If some males may be interested in pregnancy in games, and most females may not, then there really is no need for a gender-specific generalization, right? It means that pregnancy in games is simply something that appeals to a minority of gamers, regardless of gender.

There, that wasn't so hard, was it? [smile]
What's the problem?

While I can't see it working in current games, this is mainly because I don't feel there's anything to keep the player occupied during those "months" where their character would be in no fit state to fight, mine, collect herbs, etc. This I think just suggests that games just aren't deep enough and provide enough features to make something like this feasible (What happens to the unborn child, if the players character is killed and resurrects? Attacks normally hit the body as a whole, rather than specific parts: what if a player takes a significant hit to the mid-section? On another note, specific food for babies? Milk's a start, but I can't remeber the last time I saw a game with Rusks as a food item)

In general, though, if there is the content and features to deal with it, I would have no problems playing a game with this in. It would probably give the game extra playability as the two genders would be able to play differently, and that would be something I, at least, would be interested in.

Plenty of guys are already interested in seeing how the results of their questing affects a town or a specific character within a game. They want to see the town's economy grow or the couple that he played love letter mailman for get together (or alternatively to see the suffering the player caused). I believe it's fair to say most guys are very cause and effect driven and some may very well want to see some of the effects of sex.

That's not to say that pregnancy in a game should be tedious or an accurate simulation. I certainly have no interest in playing minigames to simulate (for lack of a better term) 'motherly activities'. But I do think it would be cool to ultimatly have your kid join your party and go adventuring. Or maybe be out adventuring and next thing you know you get your ass handed to you by a kid you never knew you had (or otherwise abandonded). Also, it would give just a little more of a purpose to getting married or having sex in a game and those things have been in games for a long time now.
