I need something free, easy to learn and get into, and that can make either .fbx or .x type models. I know nothing about 3d modeling except it made up of lots of triangles. Tutorials are welcome
Hi,

Free, but not easy (then again which modeler is really easy). Lots of tutorials though.

Aside from Blender (which I'm not much of a fan of) there's also Caligari's trueSpace available for free. XSI ModTool is also free for non-commercial use (ModTool Pro, which can be used commercially, is free if you have an XNA Creator's Club subscription).

Whichever one your most comfortable with. Try looking at GDWiki's list of 3D Tools, try a few out and see which ones meet your needs.

You may also want to check out some modeling oriented forum's like Polycount and CGTalk for additional help/advice/tutorials.

saw that...looked confusing

well is there something that i can get going with quickly but has room for me to grow with? (blender looks confusing)
Blender does an awful lot of things in an integrated way, from audio/video editing to physics-based simulations.
If you want a program with a limited scope Wings3D is limited to modeling, UV unwrapping, and little more.

Ill put a vote in there for Blender. I was skeptical about how easy it would be to use, given the interface, however the hurdle is not learning all the functionality, but learning the common things. If you Google for "Blender Wikibook" you will find a page full of tutorials. I did one that was for an animated skinned alien character and that taught me alot of the basics. Now, i feel i could go and model most simple things using the few basic techniques i learned.

I would honestly give blender a go, it's worth it.

If you are just looking for particular models, you could always buy them.
