Yet another game idea .
I don't believe the story line really fits the game. For instance, if I were kidnapped and forced to pilot a mech, I'd be looking for ways to sabotage the corporation and definitely not looking for ways to make my mech suit more uber.

true enough, but that's where story comes in. There are many stories where the main character initially doesn't want to do what they have been placed into and eventually they realize, through story of some sort, whether it just having what happened explained and why they did it, or some oh... these guys are right moment, or a simple maybe this isn't exactly right, but i can make it better moment.
On not to mention, if you were kidnapped and told about these machines you'd more than likely try to get one and then bust out if you really didn't like what was happening and to do that would require playing along to a degree and getting a stronger mech.
Also the kidnapping could be twisted in several ways, for example, in Kirogane no Linebarrels, if a machina kills a person accidentally, before it has a factor, it makes the person they killed it's factor. If something like this were the case then obviously a government agency would definitely step in asap and it would appear to be kidnapping from the outside world and upon your waking after such an event as if it were top secret they would not just want to reveal info out in the open or around someone that wasn't secured.
Not to mention i did mention "brainwashing" which implies that there might be a faction that uses that method to get pilots, after all it's not all one government in this...it's several.
Where are you taking game design classes any way?
Like to get me some of that.

This class I am taking now is in it's first year at a community college. It might not be the best thing out there, but when most of your other options for taking a "game design" major has been cut off in one way or another it's better than nothing.
I've also kinda taken it at AIP, since my friend who was in the class asked me for help and I did almost all of the work, and this was back in 2003 when AIP was, and probably still is, among the top 10 or so places to take game design type classes. (two side notes, the project my friend turned in, thus my work is the only ones that kept getting As, and the next best in the class only got Cs >.> so yay...and also AIP was said to be one of the top 5 schools to get into game design at the time by EGM in 2003/2002...though it got a better overall review and i got a chance about a year ago to talk to the author of that article and he agreed that AIP is a horrid environment and the reason people are good coming out of it are more because they are good going in rather than the school actually being good at teaching anything. In other words, it is a place that weeds bad people out, unfortunately good people also get screwed as thats not what it is advertised as and there are many factors that aren't related to the classes themselves that get people failed out or they drop out)
Late to the party, but ill throw in my 2c.
It sounds like a fairly classic mech setup along the lines of Mechwarrior. The Mechwarrior series I think showed that this type of gameplay can certainly be fun; even down to the chassis choice and outfitting etc.
Give the story and gameplay some more detail and polish and it sounds fine, and I especially like the idea of a persistent multiplayer setting where you can show off your customisations. The mech is a player avatar that you can also seperate yourself from, which I think gives a lot of options - for example, you have the option to customise it in the way you would choose clothing for an avatar, but also have a trophy room in the mech in the way you would traditionally use player or guild housing (a bit more thought and setting-suitablility than a "trophy room" of course, but you get the idea); it allows you multiple avatars (mechs) within the game fiction, as opposed to most MMOs where new characters are created out-of-character before you enter the world; etc.
I also wanted to say please, please dont use a cheesy acronym for the game name unless the game itself is supposed to have a comic or cheesy feel.

I've always though a Mech MMORPG would be a natural thought for someone to have, but it seems no developer is working on one so it makes me wonder.

Indeed, I hadn't even thought about homes and bases and such, but one would think that if someone has a mech they must also have a place to store it so they must have a base and just displaying their mech creations would look cool.

I'm probably going to change it soon as it's only a working title...before this it was Mech Combat, which is more of a descriptor, but I'll think of something eventually that's better...I don't know whether the feel is supposed to be cheesy or not, but I plan on paying a few homages fairly blatently to anyone that has seen the animes they come from... like Yoko Tengen, Yoko is a character in Tengen Toppa Gurran Lagann, though, this is not the same char or anything like that...it's just a wink at that. Not sure if that's cheesy or not, but that also may change. Right now I'm more or less going off the cuff of what I can think up on the fly...usually it takes me a bit of time to fully build up a story and characters.... this right here evolved from "a turn based combat between customizable mechs"
so...more stuff...
