Idea for a third-person shooter
I am not a game designer, as the matter of fact i am still in high school but i have ideas for tons of games. The idea of the game: You are a commander immersed directly into the frontlines and you have the ability to bring in reinforcements directly into the battle. You have assault teams, armored vehicles, and WMD strikes. All this comes in different varieties for example: assault teams could be snipers, heavy machine gunners, special task forces etc. The same goes for the vehicles and strikes. The story is played in WW3. My idea came from the game tom clancey:end war. I would have the game made in the ghost recon advanced war fighters engine. I have a lot more to say on this game but i don't want to right anymore unless i am righting to a game designer who have experienced in making games. I would like to know how the game sounds to you.
Would it be a strategy game, like EndWar, or more of an action game, along the warfighter/RB6 vein?
For strategy, it just sounds like Endwar, but with a "you" unit on the battlefield. As a shooter, it would be a neat new idea in my experience. What would the units do? Would they fight autonomously or require your commands?

Did you ever play Uprising? (http://uk.pc.ign.com/objects/003/003022.html) It is a somewhat similar idea, where you play as a tank/"mobile command unit" and can build and order troops.
Uprising was pretty fun. I think it's about time some more games like this came around and explored this idea more deeply.

The game would be a somewhat similar feel to EndWar but your troops can automatically attack or you can give them a specific order to fulfill in order for you to complete your task more effectively. As for you, you can do what ever you desire with the ability to control a commander but it would be highly recommended that you think tactically because there would be tanks, helicopters, and other troops shooting at you and unlike EndWar you can be right in front of the action. This aint no halo.
I would like to give this idea to a game company to see how they would react to this idea, anybody got any links?

Anyways, my personal opinion is that the shooter interface is comfortable for shooting, not giving commands. Sure, many shooters give you a team you can command - but that's a small team, and command options are usually very very limited(I wrote "usually" because sometimes they are just very limited), and you don't really control your team like you do in an RTS - what you do is more like giving guidelines to their AI.
I never played Uprising(first time I've heard of it), but from the info at gamespot and gamefaqs it doesn't look like a strategy game - it looks something style Dynasty Warriors or Battle Engine Aquila, where you control a juggernaut unit at a giant battle, except Uprising gives you a certain degree of control over the rest of the army. This works fine, cause shooting is your main activity and deploying unit is just a game element(a very central game elements, but still a game element).
Your game, however, is different. From the little you were willing to "right", I can say you want the players unit to be a general officer - a unit with little fighting power and lot's of authority. That unit won't be directly involved in combat - it would be hiding(not sneaking) and commanding the troops remotely from the back. Think about it - would you have fun playing a game where your mission is to hide in the back, away from where the action is?

I was going to suggest the Sloperama articles, which this is one of; why it's been moved to a different host I don't really know.
If you're really interested in Game Design, you should read the articles Tom Sloper has provided, sloperama.com is where I would start. Good luck
