Questions about Playing AVI files using OpenGL

Im not sure if it is really a good idea or not but my final project group is looking into trying to find a way to play an avi animation. One way we have found it to create a avi file is to constantly get a copy of a avi''s frame and then useing that image as a texture. This seems to be a very slow process to use and our avi footage will look like crap. Does anyone have a suggestion for how they would take on a task like this or maybe some tutorials on it? It''s not OpenGL, but DirectShow (as part of the DirectX 8 SDK) works really well.

Thanks for the advice well look in to the directshow here soon but we are still looking for a way to play avi in opengl because we are trying to use as little directx as we can. But we are using DirectMusic and DirectInput so i guess DirectShow wont hurt.
