Advertising my game for great exposure?

I figure this is a good place to ask this question. I've got an online RPG I need to advertise. I've run banner ads on sites like mpogd.com before, but I'd like to do something other than running a banner. Are there any sites that let you pay to have a "featured product" that shows on their homepage for a month or anything like that? I know of a few that do sponsored products, but I don't know of any that would be beneficial for an online RPG.

I think you answered your own question.

If you put enough money behind it you can convince nearly any web site to put your product on their home page -- even if they don't normally do that. There are obvious exceptions for conflicts of interest; otherwise it is fairly simple to do.

You aren't looking for just any site. You're specifically looking for sites visited by people who are interested in your online RPG, and, I assume, people who are willing to pay you money for your online RPG and are not already customers.

So the steps are:
1) Find the web sites that your specific target customer frequents. This is hard work that you must do.
2) Contact them and negotiate the cost for a non-banner ad on their site. This is very easy.

This doesn't pertain specifically to your point on paying, but don't forget the power of social networking sites. Setup MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Veoh, etc.. accounts and upload your videos, put contact information, and so on. It only takes time and can just be as effective as paying for advertising once it catches on. Good luck!
I can't believe you didn't put the link in your post...

Then we would have banned him for spamming ;)
