blender and 3ds
HY.
I'm installed bleder , but i try to import some 3dsfile and get an error!
it's not full compatible with 3ds models?
What kind of files is a good choose for the max compatibility with 3ds max 9 and blender?
IS possible to import also materials and textures?
Thanks.
Well, the blender 3ds importer is buggy and works not often correctly. In fact, it seems at least to ignore the pivot points of the model (and other parts of the transformation are false, too).
Try X-Files. There are good exporters for 3ds max and Blender should be able to read them. OBJ is worth a try, too.

Collada might be worth a try. The trouble with a lot of file formats is that information gets lost along the way, IIRC 3ds and obj don't handle animation or skinned objects, but Collada should retain all the information. Things specific to 3ds Max might get changed along the way (I'm thinking of bipeds possibly becoming generic bones rather than a CS object), but the information will still be there.
