Multiplayer in Open City shooter
Please tell me that I'm not the only one thinking the design for GTA IV multiplayer is a joke? My initial reaction: There's a ton of down time. -Checking your map is a filthy experience, takes +30 seconds to zoom in and get a quick overview. Meanwhile the playclock is ticking and you're blinded. -Running for a weapon after respawn is a long, solitary experience. -Running to a car after respawn can take a while. -When there isn't a car in sight, you could be screwed. -in a 10 minute match, you're traveling over half the time. (In most shooters, you're not traveling to a fight, you're looking for the fight. Big difference) Stupidity. -No rumble when you're shot, no flashing red. -I can't see who's talking unless I'm in the lobby. I like the online game, it's fun. People will enjoy it. However, it's not nearly as casual of an experience as the campaign mode is. Not only will multiplayer not pull in the casual gamer that much, the online daily crowd won't hang on long imo. Online GTA will stay active for a long time, simply due to newcomers. But daily gamers won't stay for long, not with the terrible pacing.
Wait, you expected a SHOOTER from a GTA game in multiplayer?
Why?
If I had that game, chances are I would be using the multiplayer function to try and do stupid things with friends. Things like, coolest crash, or seeing how many hookers you can take out in a single power side or something like that.
If you can't do things like that in the game, then yes the feature of being able to play with your friends is a total waste and should never have been included.
But as a deathmatch game?! NO!
