Getting a "free for use" license template

Okay, I'm writing a blog to motivate me to actually get off my ass (or on in this case) and work on my games. I want to post a link to a game I wrote a while back. The game itself is quite buggy, the graphics need a serious overhaul and the game loop is unoptimized as all hell. I'm posting it so I can show how far I've come since then. I've heard from other people that if you don't post your stuff with a license, anyone can go and use your stuff to make profits. Now, I'm giving this out for free (uploading to Rapidshare) and I have no problems with people doing whatever the hell they like with my program and images etc., but I don't want people making money from something that they didn't make. So two things. I want to distribute the game with a text file basically saying that "this is complete freeware and you can do anything you like with it in whole or in parts. You cannot however use anything from this to make profits in whole or part." Do you know where I can get a template license that says that? Also, I may upload to rapidshare. The problem is if no one downloads the file after 90 days, it'll be removed from their servers. Is there another upload site I can put my zipped game that won't be deleted without download after 90 days? Thanks guys in advance. Also, if you have any other advice on licenses etc. and the like, please tell me. :) Oh, btw my blog is http://devyourdream.blogspot.com The site's look is still being built, so only constructive criticism please.

How about something like the Creative Commons share alike non commercial licence. http://creativecommons.org/license/

If you do not have webspace how about opening a google account, create a homepage and upload to there.

You are epic win. I mean it. I had no idea where to start and Google failed me.

When I get the time (I work full time and work on my games occasionally) I'll definitely get something up and running.

Thanks for all your awesome advice.

You could also opt for a BSD-style license. Basically, it says "do whatever you want with this stuff, but don't claim you wrote it, and give me credit if you're releasing software with parts of it in it."
This would give you some free exposure if it becomes commercially used.

BSD is almost diametrically opposed to what he said he wants, though.

I'd think CC-by-nc would be what you want. link

Rapidshare is a really bad way of distributing anything. Why not just get a host somewhere? It's something like $10/month for web space on Dreamhost, and there are crapful freebie hosts all over.

EDIT: bah, why does GameDev's BBcode suck so much? Everybody else in the world supports text...
